Whether you’re an athlete with high demand on your body or recovering from an injury, illness or surgery, deep tissue massage could be beneficial. The primary goal of deep tissue massage is to reduce pain and discomfort, while improving the client’s ability to heal. Deep tissue massages help “lengthen and release muscles” which often feel tense. Deep tissue massage works on the muscles deeper in the body. With this type of massage the massage therapist will first start by working the superficial muscles and then go deeper as the outer layer of muscles relax. Depending on where the client needs this type of work, the massage therapist will use hands, fingers, elbows, or wrists to break up the adhesion’s. Adhesion’s, commonly known as knots, may develop in the muscles due to injury or chronic muscle tightness. To release these adhesion’s client’s may need to get a deep tissue massage. Massage also increases blood flow which helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. This is important because the pain client’s are feeling could be coming from inflammation.
